Engr. Jude Asogwa Honoured with Peace and Security Ambassador Award

In recognition of his unwavering commitment to peace, public safety, and community development, the Executive Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Area, Engr. Jude Chinedu Asogwa, KSJI, has been conferred with the Meritorious Peace and Security Ambassador Award by EYE-ON-SECURITY, a network of journalists and media professionals championing the cause of peace, security, and accountability across Nigeria.

Presenting the award, the National Coordinator of EYE-ON-SECURITY, Mr. Monday Iyke Ojomah, commended Engr. Asogwa’s exceptional leadership style, describing it as people-centered, transparent, and visionary. He noted that under Asogwa’s administration, Nsukka has become a model of responsive governance through his innovative approaches to tackling insecurity and promoting communal harmony.

Ojomah further highlighted the council chairman’s adoption of both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies in enhancing local security. According to him, Engr. Asogwa’s administration has fostered stronger security partnerships, empowered the youth, strengthened community relations, and built a solid foundation for peace and development in Nsukka and beyond.

“The Peace and Security Ambassador Award is not just a personal honour,” Ojomah said, “but a collective recognition of Engr. Asogwa’s outstanding contributions to peacebuilding, inclusive leadership, and sustainable development. He has proven that true leadership is not about occupying office, but about protecting lives, touching hearts, and ensuring that communities thrive in peace.”

Upon assuming office, Engr. Asogwa wasted no time in prioritizing the safety of lives and property within the council. On October 1, 2024 barely a day after his swearing-in he convened a high-level security meeting where a comprehensive strategy for community protection was developed.

This blueprint led to a total overhaul of the local security architecture, including the employment and retraining of over 647 neighbourhood watch personnel, improved synergy with security agencies such as the Police, Army, DSS, Forest Guards, and Civil Defence, as well as the introduction of modern technology in surveillance and intelligence gathering.

The council also procured DJI Phantom 4 drones and other advanced security tools to enhance monitoring capacity. Furthermore, Engr. Asogwa initiated the decentralization of security operations by creating specialized units such as the Rapid Response Squad, Anti-Cult Unit (to tackle youth restiveness), and Border Security Team to ensure even the most remote communities are adequately covered.

Receiving the prestigious award, Engr. Jude Asogwa expressed profound gratitude to EYE-ON-SECURITY for the recognition, dedicating the honour to the good people of Nsukka. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to upholding the principles of security, equity, justice, accountability, transparency, and service to humanity.

He further pledged to align his leadership vision with the disruptive innovation model of His Excellency, Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, the Executive Governor of Enugu State, in driving transformative change across the council.

“This award is a call to do more. Our people deserve safety, justice, and progress, and we will not relent until these are fully achieved,” Engr. Asogwa assured.
