Igwe Asadu congratulates newly elected Enugu LG chairmen, councillors

The Chairman of the Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Samuel Ikechukwu Asadu (Igwe Ogadagidi), has congratulated the newly elected chairmen and councillors across the 17 Local Government Areas of the state, urging them to make grassroots development and the welfare of the people the priority of their administration.

Igwe Asadu, in a congratulatory message on Wednesday, described their emergence from the September 26, 2026, local government elections as a call to service and a fresh opportunity to deepen development at the grassroots.

He urged the newly elected council officials to see their mandate as a responsibility to the people, stressing that effective local government administration remained critical to bringing government closer to the people.

“Your election is not merely a victory at the polls; it is a call to service and a solemn responsibility to the people who have entrusted you with the leadership of their respective local government areas,” Igwe Asadu said.

He charged the council chairmen and councillors to work closely with traditional rulers, community leaders, religious bodies, youth and women groups, as well as other stakeholders, to identify and address the pressing needs of their communities.
Asadu, who is also the immediate past chairman of the South East Traditional Ruler Council and the Traditional Ruler of Edem-Ani Ogwugwu Ancient Kingdom, Nsukka LGA, urged the LG boos maintain a harmonious working relationship with the Enugu State Government and support the effective implementation of its development programmes and policies at the grassroots.

According to him, such collaboration would create greater synergy between the state and local governments and facilitate the delivery of meaningful development to the people.

“Cooperation between the local government councils and the state government would promote peace, accelerate development and enable the people to enjoy the dividends of democracy,” he said.

The Royal Father further advised the elected officials to uphold transparency, accountability and inclusiveness in the discharge of their responsibilities, urging them to make regular consultations with the people and traditional rulers an important component of their administration.

He noted that traditional rulers, by virtue of their closeness to the people, remained important partners in grassroots development, peace-building and community mobilisation.

He expressed confidence that the newly elected chairmen and councillors would justify the confidence reposed in them by the electorate and contribute to the ongoing development of Enugu State.
The monarch, while congratulating the people of Enugu State for the peaceful conduct of the council elections and wishing the newly elected officials a successful and impactful tenure, commended Governor Mbah for what he described as his "effective governance and leadership" in the state.

The congratulatory message came against the backdrop of the inauguration of the 17 newly elected local government chairmen by the Enugu State Government on Wednesday, following their victory in the September 26 council elections.

The inauguration marked the commencement of their tenure at the local government level, with expectations that the new administration would translate its mandate into improved service delivery and development across the state's 17 council areas.
