The Senator representing Enugu North Senatorial District and the 2027 All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for the district, Senator Ikeje Israel Asogwa, has commended Chief Chirote Odo, popularly known as “Messiah Na Nsukka,” for his multi-million-naira empowerment programme, describing the initiative as a remarkable demonstration of philanthropy, compassion and commitment to human development.
Senator Asogwa gave the commendation during the empowerment programme held at Ikpuiga, Enugu-Ezike, in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area, the country home of Chief Odo and venue of the event.
Represented at the occasion by his Special Adviser on Youth Mobilisation and Empowerment, Hon. Chidi Concord (Igede), Senator Asogwa described the reported ₦600 million intervention as timely, unprecedented, gargantuan and historic, noting that it reflected an uncommon commitment to improving the welfare and economic prospects of the people.
According to him, the empowerment programme has the potential to make a significant difference in the lives of the beneficiaries by reducing economic hardship, promoting self-reliance and creating opportunities for sustainable livelihoods.
He particularly commended Chief Odo for choosing to invest directly in the people, stressing that empowering individuals and families remained one of the most practical ways of strengthening communities and stimulating grassroots economic development.
Senator Asogwa said the intervention would not only provide immediate relief to beneficiaries but could also generate a multiplier effect through the creation and expansion of small businesses, increased economic activities and additional employment opportunities, particularly for youths.
The beneficiaries received various forms of empowerment, including cars, mini-buses, mini-trucks, tricycles, motorcycles, educational scholarships, business grants and other forms of material and financial assistance designed to improve their livelihoods and economic opportunities.
Senator Asogwa expressed his appreciation to Chief Chirote Odo for what he described as a “kind gesture and uncommon philanthropy,” urging other individuals and well-meaning members of society to emulate the initiative by investing in human capital and supporting vulnerable members of their communities.
He said the programme was more than the distribution of material items, describing it as an investment in the future of the people and a practical demonstration of the principle that meaningful development begins when individuals are given the tools and opportunities to become self-reliant.
The senator also acknowledged the presence and support of political leaders, government officials, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders who attended the event to identify with the empowerment initiative.
Among the dignitaries present was the Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia.
Others included the Director-General of the Tomorrow Is Here Movement, Chief Tony Okonkwo; Deputy Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ezenta Ezeani; Chief Whip of the Enugu State House of Assembly and Member representing Igbo-Eze North Constituency I, Hon. Jude Ejike Eze; and the Member representing Igbo-Eze North Constituency II, Hon. Clifford Obe.
Also in attendance were the Deputy ALGON Chairman and Chairman of Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area, Barr. Ugo Ferdinand Ukwueze; Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Area, Engr. Jude Asogwa; and the incoming Mayor of Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area, Hon. Chris Onyekachi Simon (Don Chris).
The event further attracted members of the Igbo-Eze North Council of Traditional Rulers, Town Union Presidents, political stakeholders, community leaders, youths and other distinguished guests.
Senator Asogwa reiterated his gratitude to Chief Chirote Odo, stressing that the empowerment programme represented a significant investment in human capacity and grassroots development.
He said initiatives of such magnitude deserved recognition and encouragement because of their capacity to touch lives directly, strengthen families and contribute to the socio-economic advancement of communities.
He urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the opportunities provided to them, stressing that the ultimate measure of any empowerment programme was its ability to translate assistance into sustainable economic independence and improved quality of life.
