Igwe Asadu congratulates Chinedu Onu on his appointment as IMT Governing Council Chairman

The Chairman of Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Samuel Ikechukwu Asadu (Igwe Ogadagidi), has congratulated Dr Chinedu Onu on his appointment as Chairman of the Governing Council of the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, by Governor Peter Mbah.

Igwe Asadu, who spoke with our reporter in Enugu on Friday while reacting to the latest appointment by Governor Mbah's administration expressed his profound joy, describing Onu as a seasoned public administrator, entrepreneur politician, and a lover of education.

The royal father further emphasized that Onu is a perfect match for the position, judging by his outstanding accomplishments in his previous appointment, politics, the private sector, and education.

"I congratulate you, my son, for this well-deserved appointment; it is a testament to your dedication to public service and education development.

"I'm optimistic that your appointment will add more value to the institution, reposition it to greater heights for more academic excellence.

"I give you my blessings and pray that God will give you the knowledge and wisdom to excel in this new task to our beloved state," Igwe Asadu prayed.

The monarch, who is also the immediate past Chairman of the South East Traditional Ruler Council and the traditional Ruler of Edem-Ani Ogwugwu Ancient Kingdom in Nsukka Local Government Area, commended Governor Mbah for the appointment and his investments in education and other sectors of the state economy.
The traditional Ruler urged other governing council members of the institution, management and staff to give Onu their maximum support to reposition the tertiary institution.

Enugu State Government had in an announcement issued on September 4, 2026, listed new appointments to the governing boards and key institutions across the state.

Dr Chinedu Onu was announced as Chairman of the Governing Council of IMT, with the appointment taking effect immediately.

Born on January 4, 1970, in Ozalla Ezimo, Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State, Onu is the Chief Executive Officer of Ingrace Group, an indigenous business conglomerate with interests including the promotion of Nigerian-manufactured vehicles. Onu is also the Founder and President of Michael Okpara Leadership and Entrepreneurial Centre, (MOLEC), UNN.

He has also played a role in the education sector, having previously served as Chairman of the Governing Council of Enugu State Polytechnic, Iwollo.

His experience in education and human-capital development also extends to the Adada Education Foundation, which he founded to support young people through educational and capacity-building initiatives, including assistance with tuition funding.

Onu holds a PhD in Peace and Development Studies from Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), as well as a degree in Political Science from the institution. He also obtained a National Certificate in Education from Nwafor Orizu College of Education and attended St. Theresa’s College, Nsukka, for his secondary education.
