The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC), has released its official schedule for the 2026 Enugu Local Government Chairmanship and Councilorship elections across the 17 LGAS and 260 Electoral wards of Enugu State.
The Electoral body in a statement signed by its Executive chairman, Prof. Christian C. Ngwu, Ph.D, MNAL and sighted by Enugupress.ng disclosed that the date fixed for the upcoming Local Government Council Election in Enugu State shall be Saturday, 26th September, 2026.
ENSIEC however noted that while 23rd January, 2026 to 19th February, 2026 shall be for the Conduct of Party Primaries including resolution of disputes arising from the primaries and observation of same by ENSIEC, 27th November, 2025 to 12th December, 2025 shall be for call for Political Parties to submit information on conduct of Party Primaries specifying the time, venue and day of Party Primaries.
The Electoral body further discloses that 25th March, 2026-27 shall be for Checking Chairmanship candidates credentials at the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission ENSIEC Headquarters, No. 3 Achi Street, Independence Layout Enugu. The official statement also indicates that the Last day of submission of Nomination Forms ENSIEC 7 and ENSIEC 7A for Chairmanship and Councillorship Election respectively by Political Parties in accordance with Section 29(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, provides for not later than 180 days before the election.
