UNAA lauds Ortuanya's appointment as substantive UNN VC

By Ikemefuna Ikem

The University of Nigeria Alumni Association (UNAA) has commended the appointment of Prof Simon Ortuanya as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).

The commendation was contained in a congratulatory letter by the association, dated 4th August 2025, addressed to Prof Ortuanya, jointly signed by Queen Dr. Linda Agua-Onyekwelu (ALOHA) and Mr. Tony Chukwu, UNAA National President and Secretary respectively.

UNAA described Ortuanya's appointment as "well deserved" and saluted his boldness and courage, and expressed optimism that his tenure would bring positive change in the institution.

The letter reads "With a profound feeling of joy and excitement, the National President, Queen Dr. Linda Agua-Onyekwelu, the National Executive Council (NEC), and the entire members of the University of Nigeria Alumni Association heartily congratulate you on your appointment as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, our dear alma mater.
"Your appointment as the Vice Chancellor of the prestigious University of Nigeria is well deserved and a clear deposition of the wealth of experience you have gathered
over the years in your chosen profession. Your outstanding journey from start to now as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria is an inspiration to many who believe in hard work, discipline, dedication to duties, and selfless service.

"We salute your boldness, determination, courage, and excellence and we believe
sincerely that they will engender positive and visible changes in the University community and the University of Nigeria Alumni Association (UNAA) too.

While we congratulate you, we pray that this will add more feathers of accomplishments to your crown as we urge you to leave enviable footprints that will make people ask, “who did these?”

"As we wish you a successful tenure, please, accept the assurances of the warm
regards of the National President, the National Executive Council (NEC), and the entire members of UNAA."

It would be recalled that the Governing Council of UNN chaired by Dr. Kayode Ojo, the Pro-chancellor and Chairman of the Council, had on August 3 announced the appointment of Prof Simon Ortuanya as the 16th substantive Vice-chancellor of UNN.
