The Global/National President of the University of Nigeria Alumni Association, (UNAA)Queen Linda Agua-Onyekwelu, Ph.D has congratulated Chief Barrister Andrew Oru as UNN is about to honour him with an Honorary Doctorate Award
Agua-Onyekwelu, the 13th Global/National President of UNAA in her congratulatory message said "The Global/ National President, National Officers of the University of Nigeria Alumni Association congratulates you our Global Leader, Chief Barr Andrew Oru on the conferment/award of the Honorary Doctorate Degree by the University of Nigeria, during her 54th convocation ceremony.
"This we believe is in recognition of your selfless and outstanding service to the university and humanity at large.
"This is sure a duty to higher service," she said.
UNN will on Saturday 26th July 2025 confer an Honorary Doctorate Degree Award on Chief Barrister Andrew Oru, during the institution's 54th convocation ceremony.
Chief Oru, an alumnus of UNN, LL.B (Hons) 1983 class, was the 11th Global/National President, University of Nigeria Alumni Association (2013 - 2017).
The Acting Vice-Chancellor of UNN, Prof Oguejiofo Ujam had on Tuesday, during a press conference, announced among other activities of the institution's 54th convocation, that Chief Oru will be awarded Doctor of Public Administration (DPA, Honoris Causa) alongside three others.
The award which will take place at Ekpo Ref Convocation Hall, by 10:00 am according to the VC, was in recognition of Chief Oru's remarkable contributions to the alumni association, public life and enterprise in the country.
Oru, our reporter gathered is an unrepentant philanthropist, seasoned legal practitioner, certified management consultant, and accomplished executive with over four decades of multi-sectoral leadership across Africa and beyond.
He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1984, he has served as principal partner at A.O. Oru & Co. and held chairmanship roles in companies spanning oil and gas, power, telecom, real estate, and mining.
Chief Oru is renowned for his contributions to education, institutional development, and Pan-Africa enterprise. Widely decorated for philanthropy, professional integrity and patriotic leadership. Oru is a fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants and continues to inspire excellence through service, strategy, and vision.
