The crisis rocking Ibute-Egede Autonomous Community seems to be far from Over as another round of protest, yesterday, 30th of April, 2025, erupted at the Enugu State ministry of rural development over the arrest and detention of one of Ibute-Egede community leaders, Mr. Augustine Iloegbu who is financial secretary of the Town Union.
Me. Augustine who doubles as chairman of Anekeneze Land Committee was allegedly arrested on the diretive of the traditional ruler of the community, HRH, Igwe Peter Okwesiri, at the Enugu State ministry of rural development during a meeting convened by the Hon. Commissioner for Rural Development, Deacon Okey Ogbodo.
Mr. Augustine, according to President General of the community, Chief Henry Oyinze, had arrived the council Secretariat for the meeting alongside other community members when a team of police men from the police Annex, Agbani, on the invitation of the traditional ruler, accosted and whisked him away.
The situation threw the atmosphere into chaos, leading to the invited guests erupting into another round of protest, while calling on the governor of Enugu State and the IGP to intervene in the crisis rocking the community, and stop the traditional ruler of the community, HRH Igwe Peter Okwesiri, from harassment the community with police Annex, Agbani.
Recall that Ibute-Egede Community, had last month, held several protests, alleging police Intimidation and harassment against leaders of the community, while accusing the traditional ruler, HRH Igwe Peter Okwesiri of masterminding the orchestrations
The community had in this regard, written the inspector general of police, Ibrahim Kpotun Idris and the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, over the persistent arrests and detention of community leaders by the Monarch.
They had earlier during a protest, held one month ago, accused the traditional ruler of carrying out several arrests in the community.
Those who had been victims of the monarch's persistent police arrest included: Mr Ani Aloysius and six others from Umuezenevo village of Ibute Egede Autonomous Community, Mr Nnatube Augustine from UMUANEKE village Ibute Egede Autonomous Community, Mr. Ibekaku Sunday and Mr Eneje Ikechukwu from UMUANEKE village Ibute Egede Autonomous Community, Chief Patrick Eze, Ikeoha, Chairman Anekeneze community and some of his executives and Chief Patrick Eze, Ikeoha, chairman Anekeneze community,
