Igwe Ogadagidi Boosts Community’s Neighbourhood Watch

....Doles out over 1.5M for Uniform, others

To invigorate the activities of the Neighbourhood Watch in Edem-Ani Ogwugwu community in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu for efficiency and productivity, the traditional ruler of the community, HRM, Igwe Samuel Ikechukwu Asadu, popularly known as Igwe Ogadagide, on Monday doled out over 1.5M to the members for security uniform and increment of stipends for some key principal officers of the group.

HRM, igwe Asadu, who is also the chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers’ Council and the immediate past chairman of South-East Traditional Rulers’ Council announced the donation at an enlarged security meeting that involved members of the Igwe-in-council, Town Union Executive and the Neighbourhood Watch members at the People’s Palace, Edem-Ani community.

The monarch said the gesture was to rebrand and give a facelift to the security outfit and encourage the members to do more work, stressing that he desires a “new Neighbourhood Watch” that should be the best in guarding and protecting lives and property of the community’s citizens and visitors alike.

According to him, security is for everyone and a serious business in which everything humanly possible should be done to encourage those who have volunteered to serve the community, adding that the time has come when all well-meaning citizens of the community should rise to support the group for peace to reign.

“Today, we are making new bonds to foster the security of our community and the country in general. We have a new Edem-Ani security outfit that will meet the people’s aspirations. What we need is one house among the members. I, therefore, plead for mutual understanding of the members of our Neighbourhood Watch to embrace unity, accountability, transparency and to stop any form of bickering that is likely to undermine the objective of setting up the group.

"It is however important to say that Edem-Ani Ogwugwu community is privileged to have me as its traditional ruler and this is why I am working assiduously hard to transform the community to a standard level. Needless to say within two and a half years on the throne Edem-Ani community has seen the light and I assure you that I won’t relent in working towards the growth and development of our community," he said.
The royal father reminded the group that security requires expertise and professionalism and urged the members to propagate love and work in synergy with one another to achieve security best practices, adding further that the weekly report on their activities should be submitted to him through the vice President General of the community’s town union.

This was as he said that the present security team should be on probation for six months to determine the seriousness or otherwise of the members before taking further steps in the ongoing restructuring exercise.

Mrs. Grace Nwamaka Onyishi, the vice President General of the community, Mr. Tobechukwu Ezema, the youth chairman, Joseph Ayogu, member, Igwe-in-Council and Hon. Chka Ugwuja, all extolled igwe Asadu for his magnanimity and support to the security body, emphasizing that his commitment to the welfare of the members would go a long way in leveraging their spirit to perform more than they had done before.

They appealed to the vigilante group to avoid any act capable of causing security breaches and bringing the community to disrepute.

The Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the Neighbourhood Watch, Mr. Jude Ogbonna in his remarks pledged to work harmoniously with his colleagues to promote peaceful co-existence of the people for enhanced community development, adding that they need prayers from the people.

“Let’s come together to salvage our community and move it forward," he charged his colleagues.

Meanwhile, the traditional ruler of Umuopu autonomous community in Igbo-Eze North local government area HRM, Igwe Cyril Okechukwu Ayogu who was in the meeting applauded Igwe Asadu for his undivided attention and commitment to his people, describing him as a man with fertile heart and love.

Igwe Ayogu who is also the chairman of Igbo-Eze North Traditional Rulers’ Council and the Vice chairman, Enugu North Senatorial zone Traditional Rulers’ Council said he was glad to see his colleague demonstrate his philanthropic nature to his subjects.

“I am happy to be in the midst of the people of Edem-Ani community. I am also happy to be part of this peace meeting. I applaud Igwe Asadu for his commitment and resilience in promoting peace and oneness among his people. He has a fertile heart and love, even in the Enugu State Traditional Rulers’ Council where he preaches togetherness and love," he said.
