…As Home Base Clinches Title
In an attempt to deepen the crucial role football plays in fostering unity and promoting youth development in the society, an entrepreneur and Businessman, Master Austin Okoro, popularly known as 'Black Jesus', on 3rd of January, 2025, doled out two Million Naira (#2,000,000) as well as donated one cow to host the 2024 edition of Uvuru Agada annual Community Football Competition.
According to the businessman, the annual event, which has grown to become a robust platform for discovering talents and promoting the spirit of unity and peace among the youths of the community, recorded huge success and created an atmosphere of conviviality.
Mr. Austin, who is younger brother to Comr. Chinedu Okoro (Larry Popo), spoke to Enugupress.ng shortly after the football competition. He stressed that his purpose of sponsoring the year's competition was to revive grassroots sports and encourage local sportsmen and women to excel and grow to become global stars.
The 2024 edition witnessed an impressive turnout of supporters and a display of football skills by players of the 6 participating teams drawn from branches across the country.
At the finals held at Uvuru Football Ground, the Home base (Uvuru team) won the tournament, after beating Enugu Branch FC 4-0. and Nnewi came third, after beating Lagos 2:1
The competition which started on the 27th December, 2024, produced the under-listed results: opening match: Home vs Nnsuka 2-0; 29th December: Enugu vs Abuja 2-0; 30th December: Lagos vs Abuja 2-1 and 31st December: Home vs Nnewi 4-1.
Home Base FC went home with a cash prize of N300, 000 (with each player, numbering up to 15, smiling home with 20k), while the 2nd and 3rd positions received N200,000 and N150,000 respectively. However, the fourth placed received N100,000, while the fift and sixt placed received N50,000 each. This is just as the planning committee got N100,000.

Other expenditures include purchasing of all jerseys won by the participating 6 teams, buying of the trophy, buying of football nets, drinks and purchasing of 30 Medals which were given to the first and second teams
