Chairman Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers mourn Senator Okey Ezea

The Chairman of Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Samuel Asadu (Igwe Ogadagidi) has mourned the passing of Senator Okey Ezea, (Enugu North Senatorial District, who died on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.

The late Senator, born on August 11, 1963, was a lawyer and businessman. He was elected during the 2023 general election under the platform of the Labour Party to represent Enugu North Senatorial District in the 10th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

In a condolence message in Enugu on Thursday, Igwe Asadu who is the immediate past Chairman of South East Council of Traditional Rulers described the Senator's death as a rude shock and a big loss to his family, Nsukka zone, Enugu State and the country in general.

He said that Ezea was a fighter of truth and justice who demonstrated unwavering conviction and stood steadfast in his beliefs even in the face of pressure, adding that he gave Enugu North senatorial district a strong voice and good representation at the Red Chambers of the National Assembly.

"On behalf of the Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of late Senator Okey Ezea, the entire people of Enugu North Senatorial District, the good people of Enugu State and Nigeria in general, our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

“We received the news of his passing with rude shock and sadness. His sudden death has plunged not only the family, Nsukka Zone, but the entire Enugu State and the country into mourning.

"We pray to God to grant them the strength to bear this irreparable loss of Senator Ezea who was a patriotic Nigerian par excellence, and worked hard to better the standard of living of the people of Enugu North Senatorial district and beyond," Igwe Asadu said.

Until his death, Ezea was the vice-chairman of the Senate committee on cooperation and integration in Africa and NEPAD, and the Senate committee on culture and creative economy.

He sponsored the bill to establish the Federal College of Agriculture, Adani, and led the push for the creation of Adada state, a bill he championed until his passing.

Beyond the National Assembly, Ezea held notable public service roles, including serving as Chairman of the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo.
