Digital Bridge Institute, an International Centre for Information and Communication Technology Studies, has trained over 100 employees of the Federal College of Education, Eha-Amufu in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State in Advanced Digital Empowerment for Tertiary Institutions (ADEPTI).

The five-day training programme, which kicked off on Monday, 11th November and ended on Friday, 15th November, 2024 was aimed at building the proficiency of tertiary institutions’ staff in ICT tools to achieve better results in teaching, learning, research and administrative duties.

According to the training coordinator, Mr. Chukwuemeka Adinde from the Digital Bridge Institute, it is necessary that members of tertiary institutions’ staff become abreast of the use and application of digital technologies to enable them to improve their competence and attain the global best practices in digitalization of education, stressing that the training which involved teaching and non-teaching staff of the college was impactful.

“The ADEPTI programme is designed to help staff of tertiary institutions acquire essential skills such as understanding the use of computers and ICT tools in aiding teaching, improve digital literacy for effective administration, communication and online collaboration, cyber security principles and best practices, emerging technologies like AI, block chain as well as Microsoft Office productivity tools,” he emphasized.

“The Data Analysis and Data Visualization module of the programme is meant to help teaching staff and researchers in tertiary institutions to develop the skills and competence to analyse data using SPSS and Microsoft Power BI. Understanding the data analysis module would help staff to come up with well prepared research output that meets international standards.”

Mr. Adinde, who was accompanied by two other resource persons, Engr. Herbert Adinde and Kenneth Ogbonna, expressed optimism that the outcome of the training would be appreciated by the trainees, and enjoined them to apply the knowledge gained in their day- to-day activities to drive innovation, growth and stay updated on the latest technologies.

He expressed gratitude to the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) for their support and sponsorship of the programme.

While thanking the management of the College headed by Prof. (Mrs.) Pauline Ngozi Ikwuegbu for providing the enabling atmosphere for the training, Adinde also commended the participants for their good conduct throughout the programme.

Meanwhile, the Provost, Prof. (Mrs.) Ikwuegbu, represented by the deputy, Dr. Sam Odo, has extolled NCC and the Digital Bridge Institute for giving the staff of the college insight into digital skills and assured them that their journey in the institution won’t be a wasted one.

In their separate remarks, the Director of ICT in the College, Dr. Tony Okwor and the chairman, Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Mr. Festus Adindu Ugwuerua, who also was a participant in the training, said they were impressed with the capacity building workshop, emphasizing that both the teaching and non-teaching staff that participated in the programme are certainly more conversant now with various aspects of the digital world than before and urged them not to allow what they learnt to diminish.
