Enugu by-election: Igbo-Eze North, Udenu APC LG candidates laud Asogwa’s Emergence

...Says it's a victory for Democracy

The All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship candidates for Igbo-Eze North and Udenu Local Government Areas of Enugu State, Chris Onyekachi Simon and Dr Innocent Ezeoha, have described the election of Ikeje Asogwa as senator-elect for Enugu North Senatorial District as a triumph of democracy and the will of the people.

Speaking on Asogwa’s victory, Simon expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the election, attributing it to the widespread acceptance of the APC candidate across the senatorial district.

He expressed confidence that Asogwa would ensure equitable distribution of democratic dividends to all communities within the district, noting that the senator-elect possesses the political influence and capacity to effectively champion the interests of the people at the National Assembly.

Simon further disclosed that Ozzi Ward 8 recorded overwhelming support for Asogwa, contributing significantly to his victory. He also expressed appreciation to party supporters for backing his emergence as the APC candidate for the forthcoming local government election in Igbo-Eze North.
Also speaking, Dr Ezeoha told journalists at Polling Unit 007, Amaogodo Village Hall, that the large turnout of voters reflected the confidence reposed in the APC by the electorate and their appreciation of the party’s decision to nominate him as its candidate for the upcoming local government polls.

According to him, voters demonstrated their support for the APC by turning out in large numbers to vote for Asogwa.

He described the senatorial by-election as peaceful, credible, free and fair, adding that several opposition elements aligned with the APC candidate during the contest.
Similarly, APC stalwart Charles Mbah of Egariga Polling Units 001 and 002 in Orba, Udenu Local Government Area, said Asogwa’s victory reflected the mandate of the people.

Mbah noted that the outcome of the election signals growing support for the APC in the state and expressed optimism that the party would record further electoral successes in future elections, including those of 2027.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), had in the early hours of Sunday, declared the candidate of APC, Ikeje Asogwa, winner of the just-concluded Enugu North Senatorial by-election.

Announcing the results at the INEC office in Nsukka, Prof Christian Ezeibe, the INEC Returning Officer for the by-election, disclosed that Asogwe, the candidate of APC, polled a total of 162,360 votes to defeat his closest rival, Dr Nestor Ezeme of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 9,299 votes to finish second in the election.
