In commemoration of this year's World Mental Health Awareness Month, a Transformational Wellness Team (TWT), has announced a 21-day Transformational Wellness Challenge designed to promote holistic healthy lifestyle through structured, daily activities, and communal support.
Addressing journalists in Enugu on Wednesday, the leader of TWT, Coach Ndali Modebe said that the program which will be conducted online, tagged "Free Burnout Intervention Campaign," starts on 7th May.
"This May, in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, the Transformational Wellness Team are opening the doors to the 21-day Transformational Wellness Challenge 2.0.
"It begins on 7th May 2026.
For 21 days, participants will be guided through a structured reset, Fitness to rebuild physical energy, Discipline to restore consistency.l, Nutrition to support the body, Mindset work to bring clarity and emotional balance, as well as simple practical tools designed to help people feel like themselves again.
"We will be teaming up with Prof Edwin Nwobodo and Prof Ifeoma Modebe, both of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, amongst other equipped coaches," she said.
Modebe, who said that registration is ongoing, urged intended participants to join the group on their WhatsApp platforms, she also explained that recent studies across sub-Saharan Africa show that between 34 per cent and 87 per cent of workers in high-pressure sectors experience burnout. Among professionals, many reports place the number between 40 and 80 per cent.
According to her, "Burnout is a state of chronic emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by prolonged, unmanaged workplace stress, characterized by exhaustion, cynicism, and reduced efficacy."
She said, "Africa is home to over 1.4 billion people. That means hundreds of millions may be experiencing burnout symptoms right now. Not all are diagnosed. Not all speak about it. But many feel it every day.
"The causes are not abstract, they are familiar. Long working hours that never seem to end, financial pressure that follows you home, limited access to healthcare, job insecurity, the emotional weight of simply trying to survive and stay afloat.
"At first, it is subtle. The things that once excited you no longer do. Sleep becomes restless. You wake up tired. You feel anxious without knowing exactly why. You keep going, because you have to. From the outside, everything looks fine. Inside, you are exhausted. This is what burnout looks like for millions across Africa. People are showing up, working, providing, pushing forward, while quietly running on empty," she said.
Modebe, our reporter, gathered that she has spent years as an advanced first aider and wellness advocate, while she helps individuals move from idea to income, she also helps them to move from overwhelm to clarity. Her approach is practical, structured and deeply human. Not quick fixes, but consistent, guided change.
On the gains of their previous program, she said further, "After our similar program last year, people reported better sleep, clearer thinking, renewed motivation. Not because everything in their lives changed overnight, but because they did.
"This year's challenge is not just a program. It is a response to what people are going through. It is about giving individuals the tools to manage stress, reduce burnout and regain control, one day at a time, the truth is, as Africa continues to rise, many are silently struggling to keep up. Progress should not come at the cost of well-being. Change has to start somewhere, and often, it starts with one decision," she said.
