Chief Festus Onogwu, former Chairman of Ogige Market Amlagameted Traders Association Nsukka (OMATAN) has condemned the last Saturday brutal assassination of Mr Stephen Aniagu, Chairman of Ogbete Market Amalgamated Traders Association (OMATA) Enugu by unidentified gunmen.
Onogwu said this in Nsukka on Tuesday in an an interview our correspondent while reacting to last Saturday (September 14) assassination of Aniagu in Enugu.
The Chairman said he received the news of assassination of Aniagu the Enugu market Chairman with shock, surprise and sadness.
"I condemn the killing of Aniagu the Chairman of OMATA Enugu for whatever reason by his killers
"No matter what happened people should always respect the sanctity of life and resist the temptation of shedding human blood.
"I knew Aniagu when I was Chairman of Nsukka Market and until his death we have been relating like friend, may God grant his soul eternal rest,"he said.
Onogwu urged the family to take solace that Aniagu lived a fullfilled life by dedicating himself to the service of humanity.
"Aniagu will be remembered , as a patriotic and dedicated market leader.
"May God grant his entire family and Enugu State the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss, as God knows the best", he said.
Onogwu commended Gov Peter Mbah of Enugu State who had already directed security agencies in the state to fish out and arrest killers of Aniagu so that they would be prosecuted.
Our correspondent gathered that, Aniagu was assassinated on Saturday September 14, at the Topland Area of Enugu State capital by unidentified gunmen while coming back from market.
