Isi-Uzo Council Chairman, Obeagu, Interfaces With Stakeholders, Sets-up Community Development Committee

In line with the policy direction of the Enugu State Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mba, to build partnerships with local governments in order to facilitate development in rural areas, the Executive Chairman of Isi-Uzo local government area, Hon. Obiora Obeagu, on Friday, being 28th of August, 2023, held a robust engagement meeting  with stakeholders of Isi-Uzo local government Area, where he briefed them on the development plans of the Enugu State government and the need for Isi-Uzo to strategically key into the State government's programmes.


The stakeholders who were drawn from across the eleven wards of Isi-Uzo LGA, were however, constituted and inaugurated as Isi-Uzo Community Development Committee (ICDC) by the council chairman.


ENUGUPRESS.NG reports that Hon. Obiora Obeagu while inaugurating the committee, informed them that the ICDC will have the responsibility of undertaking community needs assessment and helping to coordinate community level development as well as  intervention activities. 


The Isi-Uzo LG Chairman explained that apart from partnership with the State government, the Council also plans to engage federal government institutions, private sactors and other national and international organizations to facilitate the needed development in Isi-Uzo.


The Executive Chairman also charged the ward representatives to work as a team and document development needs of communities in each ward and submit their report to the Council for necessary actions. 


He equally informed the Stakeholders that there is an Economic, Governance and Development Committee at the local government level which will drive government's programmes from the centre based on arrangements with the State government, while promising to ensure equity, justice and fairness to all.


Speaking at the event, the PDP Chairman of Isi-Uzo local government Area, Hon Uche Ugwueze, thanked the Council Chairman for coming up with such innovative idea, which he said will have direct impacts on the people while  promising to do his best to support such laudable program. 


He further applauded the Council Chairman whom he said has done very well in the area of projects execution and human capital developments,  emphasizing that such efforts  must be encouraged by all the sons and daughters of Isi-Uzo local government.


Speakers who expressed happiness with the Executive Chairman's leadership style as well as the new project initiative in the council include Chief Anselm Onah,  Registrar State University of Medical And Applied Sciences, SUMAS; Hon. Chidi Egbogu and Hon Ik Ogbodo, former SAs to Enugu State Governor; Mr Sylvester Ugwuagbo, Engr. Martin Okwor and others. 


In his own remarks, Engr. Martin Okwor who gave vote of thanks, praised the Council Chairman, for his good governance and initiatives. He noted that Isi-Uzo people were happy with his historic new Secretariat complex under construction, which will boost activities at the Council headquarters and also give the LGA facelift. 


Those in attendance include Hon Ogechukwu Nnamani, Vice-Chairman Isi-Uzo LGA; Hon Azubuike Odo, SLG Isi-Uzo LGA; Hon Irenus A. Nnaji, Leader Isi-Uzo Legislative Council; Hon Jacob Abonyi, immediate past Chairman of Isi-Uzo LGA; Hon Osita Ogene, former Chairman, Isi-Uzo LGA; Hon. Emma Igwurube, former TC Chair Isi-Uzo LGA; Hon. Godwin Eze, Chief of Staff, Isi-Uzo LGA;  Mrs Chika Ede, LG Cashier; Hon. Nnabuike Ugwu, Majority Leader of Isi-Uzo Legislative Council; Hon. Bright Nwodo, Chief Whip; Hon. James Nnaji, Supervisor for Works; Hon. Philip Ezembu, Supervisor for Agric.; All the Administrators of Development Centres - Hon Ik Orji, Admin Amanyi; Hon Chris Agu, Admin. Isi-Uzo Central; Hon Tobechukwu Odo, Admin, Eha-West; Hon Emeka Ome, Admin Eha-East; Hon. Mrs. Virginia Ede, Isi-Uzo Women Leader; Mr. Bartholomew Eze, Youth Leader; Isi-Uzo LGA, Mr. Stephen Ugwu, SA to Chairman on Students Affairs and President, National Association of Isi-Uzo Students (NAIS),  among others.


Meanwhile, the ward committees were mandated to commence work immediately.
