UNAA congratulates Anyaehie as UNIZIK's new substantive VC

The University of Nigeria Alumni Association (UNAA) has congratulated one of its own, Prof. Bond Anyaehie on his appointment as the new substantive Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State.

This was in a congratulatory letter, jointly signed by the UNAA National President, Queen Dr Linda Agua-Onyekwelu, and the National Secretary, Mr Tony Chukwu on Sunday.

The association described the appointment as "deserving" and a call for "higher service to the nation," and expressed optimism that he would deliver in his new assignment, reposition and take the institution to the next level.

"UNAA received the news of your appointment as the new substantive Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University with joy and excitement.

"This appointment is a call to higher service to the nation and going by your antecedents, managerial and academic track record we are sure you will perform excellently and take the university to greater heights.

"As a Super Lion, and an alumnus of the University of Nigeria, you have our full support and blessings. Our prayers are with you. We know your track record, capacity, and goodwill. We wish you continued excellence."
 
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of UNIZIK, Olugbenga Kukoyi, has on Sunday announced the appointment of Prof. Bond Anyaechie as the new Vice Chancellor, describing the process as “thorough and transparent." The appointment will take effect on November 19th, 2025. This combination of Barr Kukoyi and Prof Anyaehie as Chancellor and Vice Chancellor respectively will sure transform into a kinetic energy that will catapult Unizik to very great height.

Anyaehie, a professor of Medical Physiology and Clinical Measurement, has nearly two decades of teaching experience at the College of Medicine, University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus.

He earned his first degree in Medicine and Surgery from Abia State University, Uturu, in 1998, a master’s degree in 2004, a PhD in 2009, and a Master of Public Health from UNN in 2011.

Anyaehie began his teaching career at the College of Medicine, Imo State University in 2002 as a part-time lecturer before becoming a full-time lecturer. He joined the University of Nigeria, College of Medicine in 2007, rising to the rank of Reader and was promoted to Professor of Physiology and Clinical Measurement in 2013.

He served as Deputy Provost of the College of Medicine, University of Nigeria, between 2018 and 2022. Additionally, he was Acting Provost at the College of Medicine, Imo State University, and a visiting professor from 2020 to 2022 on a pro bono basis.
