The House of Assembly Elections Petitions Tribunal sitting in Enugu, Enugu State, has upheld the election of the Enugu Minority Whip, Hon. Chukwuma Martins Ekwueme of the Peoples Democratic Party, representing Uzo Uwani state Constituency.
Hon. Ekwueme, popularly called Zazu, was returned by the Independent National Electoral Commission as the winner of the 18th March poll.
His election was, however, challenged at the tribunal by Engr. Ifeanyi Utazi of the Labour Party.
In its judgement, the tribunal, held that the petitioner's clams "lacked merit" and thereafter, struck out the case.
The tribunal further held that the petitioner's claims lacked substantial grounds to warrant further consideration of the matter.
In his reaction, Hon. Ekwueme praised the judgement of the tribunal, while describing it as victory for democracy. He however, thanked his followers for their prayers and wishes throughout the duration of the matter in court.
